 Hemp is Our History
Did you know that America's history is rooted in growing hemp? Thomas Jefferson once said, "Hemp is of greatest importance to our nation," yet today the U.S. is the only industrialized nation where growing hemp domestically is prohibited. That is why we are advocating that the U.S. federal government change its policy towards industrial hemp, which confuses oilseed and fiber varieties of Cannabis grown for food and industry with drug varieties of the plant.

There is so much to learn about hemp, from its history to its environmental benefits to its health benefits. Start now by reading our "Hemp 101" primer here Discovering the Benefits of Hemp brochure. (PDF file 2.6MB). Then visit your local library and research historical facts through your local newspapers' online news archives and share what you have learned with us and your friends. Spreading the word about the need to resume hemp farming in the U.S. will help build awareness around the issues. Taking the time to contact your representatives in Congress and write letters to the editor of your local newspapers is also a great way to help educate people.
