Join the University of Iowa Environmental Coalition as we celebrate the power of grass-root campaigning to raise awareness about the history of hemp production in the US! We will be hosting a free screening of the film "Hempsters," a documentary that details the usefulness of hemp as a fibrous plant and natural resource. As the US is the only industrialized country to ban the production of hemp, we must work to advocate for change and foster discussion surrounding what has historically been a clouded issue. Hempstravaganza will be a week-long event, coinciding with Ithaca College's Earth Week celebrations, to raise awareness about industrial hemp prohibition in America. Join us for a screening of "Standing Silent Nation," a documentary about Native Americans and hemp, followed by a panel discussion with professors from our Native American Studies program. Hempstravaganza continues! Dr. Anil Netravali, a professor of fiber science at Cornell University, will be speaking about the properties and applications of hemp. We will also be teleconferencing with David Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner's. In addition to these presentations, we will be screening the work-in-progress reel of "Bringing It Home," a documentary currently being made about the rise of the imported hemp industry in America. The Hemp Hut, created by David Piller, Vote Hemp's 2011 Hemp Activist of the year, will be one of the showcase attractions at the 2nd Annual Deep Green Festival. Designed as a multi-sensory hempen exhibit, the Hemp Hut includes a wide variety of hemp products and materials including body care, building materials, food, textiles and clothing, bioplastics, and more.
Celebrate Earth Day and tour the beautiful 3,500 SF, carbon-neutral, hempcrete home owned by Asheville's former mayor Russ Martin and his wife Karon Korp. Enjoy wine & appetizers (with hemp ingredients!) while meeting filmmakers Linda Booker & Blaire Johnson of BRINGING IT HOME. They're raising awareness and funds to help complete their documentary about industrial hemp, healthy houses and a greener future for America. $35 minimum contribution at door. Collingswood hosts a Green Festival to raise awareness of environmental responsibility and is entering its fourth proud year. Collingswood Green Festival features Bike Share/Repair, children's activities, green building companies like Greenable of Philadelphia and many more. In this New Jersey suburb within skyline view of Philadelphia, thousands will come to educate themselves and loved ones on how to be better caretakers of our planet. Greenable of Philadelphia will table with local hemp activist Diane Fornbacher to promote America's number one historical plant in conjunction with Hemp History Week and Vote Hemp.

Doors open at 6pm The local Chef Hero named; Moses the Iron Chef who cooks for Ziggy Marley when Ziggy tours, will be cooking and having the grill going with Jamaican style foods covered with dehulled Hemp Seeds and all cooked with Hemp oil and Hemp milk presented buffet style, Vegan Hemp dishes included. Ron Williams CEO of the Hemp Company Versativa will be the MC. After telling his own story on discovering the truth about Hemp & its History, he will introduce our Special Guest Speaker Julia Butterfly who pronounces Hemp to be "The Solution" not the "Alternative" to cutting down her beloved Ancient Old Growth Redwood trees for paper. After a brief intro she opens the floor to the Main Event. The Dallas Premiere Screening of the long awaited "Hempsters: Plant the Seed", followed by some fun Versativa & Whole Foods product raffle giveaways. Then follows a Q&A with Ron William's as Moderator. Live music follows as we whisk away our special guest's next door to the Balcony Club and enjoy some good discussion with some Chef Moses Hemp deserts & Hemp hors d'oeuvres,. capping things off with the hope of an ongoing tour for education. We all make a toast with some Hemp Beer/ Hemp Wine/Hemp Vodka. We jump into our Hemp Limo and have Happy Hemp Dreams in our Hemp sheets sleeping comfortably after our evening showers using Dr.Bronner's Hemp Soap and sleeping soundly on our Hemp Pillows after a nice cold glass of Hemp Milk!
